Mobility vans with good windshield whipers are critical

describe the imagewindshild wipersWindshield WipersGood windshield wipers are not only critical when driving in the wet and or snowy weather conditions, but when driving your mobility van daily all year around.  Things like road grime, bugs, oil, and dust can make for poor visability caused by sun glare or oncoming headlights at night.  Good windshield wipers along with a properly adjusted windshield washers are essential in keeping your windshield clean and glare free.

It is recommended that wiper blades be replaced once a year to maintain optimum wiping performance.  Blades that are exposed to harsh weather conditions (direct sunlight from being parked outdoors, and or in a hot climate) may need to be replaced more often, probably every six months.

Wiper blades age faster when being exposed to sunlight and heat or abrasive conditions like sand and dust.  Older blades lose their flexibility and may streak or chatter on the windshield. The life of your wiper blade also depends upon how often the wipers are used (more frequent use accelerates wear) how much dirt and grime that the blades are exposed to (silica dust is abrasive and wears away the sharp square cut edge on the blade that is necessary for a clean and clear wipe).  Strong chemicals like windshield washer solvents and cleaners may harm the blade and thus limit their useful life.

When the wiper blades are streaking, smearing, chattering or skipping, or if the blade is torn or damaged they should be replaced. It is better to keep an eye on the condition of the blades and replace them before they reach this point. With older style wiper blades that have metal frames, there is a risk of permanently scratching the windshield if a tear or damaged blade allows the metal frame to rub against the glass.

Make sure that your new blade is of the same configuration and length as the original to avoid interference problems. Many vehicles have different length wipers for the driver and passenger side so make sure both sides are the correct length and mounting configuration to fit the application.  Most autoparts stores will have a chart to guide you in the purchase of the correct wiper blades for your mobility van.  The auto parts store may even replace them for yoy.  Beam style wiper blades are now more popular than the old frame blades. Beam blades also can be retrofitted to many older vehicles to upgrade wiper apparence and performance. With beam style blades, the rubber wiping element is molded around an internal flat metal spring. The spring or springs provide support and stiffness so that the blade makes good contact and follows the curvature of the windshield. The low profile aerodynamic shape of beam style blades also reduces wind lift and noise at highway speeds and also resist snow build up and clogging during winter conditions.

Most handicap accessible vans have a rear wiper that also needs to be maintained. Make sure you keep a good supply of windshield washer fluid so it will be on hand when you need it. There also is available windshield treatments that repel water and road grime which you might consider applying to your windshield or rear window to help improve your visability during .

In the wintertime it is necessary to clear all snow and ice off of your windshield and wiper arms before you turn on the wipers. Remember, safe driving also includes good visibility. Make sure you do not forget to include wiper blades in your maintenance program.

Have a good safe driving experience.  Do not forget to check other important items such as your emergency kit, tire pressures, oil and transmission fluids.

Used Wheelchair Vans Can Be a Smart Investment

Is a wheelcair van in yor future? If you're in the market for a handicapped van, then a used wheelchair van may be one of the smartest investments you'll make. Putting in the necessary time and effort to shop for a good quality used van has several advantages.

Why You Should Consider Purchasing a Used Handicapped Van
  • This point is extremely obvious, so it's first on the list - when you purchase a used van, you'll save $$ over buying a new one. Through due diligence comparison shopping, you can often find a used wheelchair van with low miles, very little wear, and is basically in great shape.
  • When you buy direct from manufacturers over the internet, that means in most cases, you won't get the opportunity to test drive your new van prior to making your purchase decision.
  • Additionally, when you buy direct online, that manufacturer doesn't have the ability to service the van's maintenance. Also, In the event of an emergency breakdown, the manufacturer cannot come to your assistance.
In general, with direct seller "straight from the manufacturer" online deals, you're basically considered a one time sales number, and that's it. Whereas by purchasing your handicapped van from a local brick and mortar dealership, you are definitely the heart and soul of that dealership's business. Selling you the best vehicle for your needs and properly servicing and  maintaining it is at the top of their list, too. However, not all dealerships are created equal.

Agor Enterprises is a multi-point dealership group. We're a family owned business, and have been proudly offering high quality vehicles and top-of-the-line servicing of those vehicles for more than 40 years. We have a mobile service unit as well as 24 hour emergency service available. Agor Enterprises offers you your first year of maintenance FREE. (your first and second routine maintenance are free with the purchase of a van). We want you to test drive any and all of the handicapped vans that you feel may be right for your needs. Our motto is "Giving you Access to the World," and we mean that. We want you to have the best running, most accessible user-friendly van possible, and we have many great used vans.

Some  of the brands Agor Enterprises sells with pride include BraunAbility, ElDorado, Vision by Viewpoint, and AutoAbility Van Conversions. We also sell sell Bruno, Harmar, Sterling, Ezlock, and Qstraint handicap equipment.

When you purchase a handicapped van from Agor Enterprises, the last thing you'll get is a suggestion for unnecessary equipment. Every employee has a close friend or family member who has physical limitations, so you can rest assured that our entire staff understands and empathizes with our customers. We'll make sure all of your needs are met completely, regardless of whether you buy new or used.

We consider ourselves consultants who sell mobility solutions rather than salespeople. We're here to be of service not just on the sales floor, but for years to come, keeping your van running smoothly so that it always gets you wherever you need to go.

We also offer ramp van rentals. Another things about Agor Enterprises - we not only sell quality used vans, we buy them, too. So if you wish to sell yours, we may be able to help you by purchasing it..

We look forward to being of service, and invite you to Contact Us. We're here to get you on the road and rolling, and help keep your van doing just that, year after year.

Used Wheelchair Vans - The Affordable Choice

used handicap vanPurchasing a handicapped van is a major investment, and one that you want to last you for a long time. If you've never considered buying a used wheelchair van, then here are some great reasons why you should do so:

Advantages of Purchasing a Used Handicapped Van

  • This one's kind of a no-brainer, but it's a biggie -  you'll save $$ over the price of a new handicapped van. By doing some careful comparison shopping, it's very possible to find a used wheelchair van in great shape that has low miles and little wear and tear..
  • When you buy direct from manufacturers over the internet, you won't have the chance to test drive a van prior to purchase, so visiting a brick & mortar local dealership affords you that advantage, as well as often having a selection of excellent used vans on the lot, from which you can choose..
  • One other advantage of visiting a local dealership is that when you make your purchase directly online from a manufacturer, they won't be able to provide your van's service maintenance needs. And should you have an emergency breakdown, the manufacturer isn't available to help you out of that unfortunate jam.

Agor Enterprises is a multi-point dealership group. We're family owned and have been in business for over 40 years. We offer high quality new and used handicapped vans, as well as providing excellent service for those vehicles. Our mobile service unit and 24 hour emergency service enables us to help you keep rolling. In fact, our motto is "Giving you Access to the World," and we mean it!

We encourage you to come by and test drive any of the handicapped vans we have which may be right for your needs.  Just a few of the brands Agor Enterprises carries are BraunAbility, ElDorado, and Vision by Viewpoint.. We also sell sell a wide variety of quality handicap equipment and accessories.

Each staff member of Agor Enterprises has a close friend or family member with physical limitations, so every member of our team will do everything in their power to ensure that all your needs are satisfied, whether you buy a new or used handicapped van.

We absolutely are eager to be of service to you, and look forward to meeting with you soon! Please Contact Us  for more details. Let us help you get out there on the road, happily and reliably rolling along to your every destination!

The internet allows a wheelchair user who may be considering the execution of a wheelchair transfer to view real-life transfers in the home as well as transfers into a wheelchair van, or vehicle, or zero turn lawnmower, etc.  The "Star" of the most prominent home videos is Cindy a para with a disability caused by a T2 complete transverse myelitus, She demonstrates and narrates transfers using a transfer board from her bed to her self propelled manual chair, to the toilet with the aid of a toilet transfer system, from the toilet to a shower, shows her showerhead system in the shower stall, and returns from the shower to her bed.  Along with demonstrating the various types of equipment Cindy uses she passes along some very helpful tips on what to consider to keep your transfer safe and how to make it easier.  The videos vary in length from a little over a minute to longer than four minutes.
A list of the videos that can be viewed are on YouTube.com when you search "Cindy paraplegic transfer".  You can also search "Cindy transfer"  (a different Cindy) who demonstrates her techniques transferring from her wheelchair to her golf cart or from her wheelchair to her zero turn lawnmower. There are several other videos that will be listed on the screen along with your requested search that you will be able to access.  Do not allow your need for a wheelchair limit your freedom and independence.

Air Travel With a Disability or A Handicap, Do Not Let It Stop You!

describe the imageMany people with a disability assume that because of their disability that it will restrict their opportunity to travel by air.  Let me tell you from first hand experience that if you are not traveling because of your disability that you are needlessly limiting your horizons. This need not be the case. Flying with a handicap or disability is slightly more complicated than for an able-bodied flier. Nevertheless, the majority of all airlines are now geared towards catering for disabled fliers. I have traveled essentially around the world with my scooter.  I have been to China, Japan, Russia, Egypt, and to most of the European and Mediterranean countries. Barcelona in Spain is an extremely wheelchair friendly place to go. Almost all buses and subways are easily accessible.  Experiences I would never have had if I had let my handicap limit my horizons.  When you make your air travel arrangements be sure to tell the airlines that you are traveling with a disability and what type of assisting devices you have (i.e. chair or scooter) and that you will need an isle seat. The airline will probably want to preboard you, so be early at the airport. You, however, have the choice not to preboard. Most of the time you can gate check your chair to your final destination which allows you to ride your wheelchair or scooter down the jet bridge right up to the airplanes door.  If you can walk short distances you can walk to your seat or if you cannot walk the airlines will provide an aisle chair to take you to your seat.  Upon arrival at your final destination they will bring your chair back to the airplane door or provide you with a chair and an aid to take you to the luggage pickup area to retrieve your chair.  If you should have intermediate stops the airline will provide you with a wheelchair and an aid to take you to your next gate. Alert the steward's about your wheelchair about half an hour before you arrive so they can check to make sure that the proper arrangements have been made to handle your situation.  .
Some Travel Tips:
Always keep in mind what you can do easily and without assistance, as well as situations that would require help.
After the plane lands stay on the plane until you know your assisting device is at the door.
Make a photocopy of your birth certificate, passport, airlines tickets, credit cards, and any important papers and carry them   separately when traveling outside the united States.
Make sure you have a battery charger with you and that you have a proper power converter if traveling outside the U.S.
If going to a country that has a language that you cannot use then consider getting a cheat sheet that has some phrase you think that you might use on it. i.e. the  name of a Hotel, airport, destinations, bus, taxi,  etc.

Let’s Reduce Your Risk of Falling!

As you get older, with the change in how your body functions and the medications you take, it may make it more difficult for you to get around but don’t worry we are here to help you! Here are some good tips to help you lower your risk of falling.

*Make sure you are going to the doctors regularly.  It’s important to keep in touch with your personal doctor. It is also important be sure that your medications are not going to increase your risk of falling, when you schedule your next appointment be sure to bring in all your medications you are currently taking and let your doctor cross check them all to make sure the medications are not conflicting in any way and to check that they are not going to increase your risk of a potentially dangerous fall.  Also discuss with your doctor if you have fallen already, where and how it happened so the doctor can help with prevention strategies.

*Have you set up your house for success? Here are some really great ways to help you stay safe and fall resistant in your home:

-Keep your hallways clear; keep all shoes and oddities out of your way.

-Make sure everything has its place; Keep what you use most often somewhere you know and have easy access to as to keep from over stretching, bending or stepping . If you stay organized then you won’t have to be searching around for everything or falling because of a mess.

-Removing small throw rugs is important; they are easily looked over and are easy to trip on.

-Is your house well lit? Make sure everything is visible for the eye to see.

-A shoe that fits well makes all the difference, whether you’re indoors or outdoors a shoe that doesn’t fit properly will not help you walk properly.

-Have a family member help you to install handles or handrails where needed in your house to help you have an extra grip in places that may need some caution. For example, shower     rails in your bath room.

*Exercise is Key-The more active you stay, the stronger you will be. Exercise, if you get the Okay by your doctor, can help keep you more balanced; give you more coordination and flexibility. All these things are great ways to keep you from falling and staying safe from harm.

These are just some of the many ways tp prevent falling in your home.

Good News for Those Using Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

Labor Department Shows Employment Gain for Americans with Disabilities

More wheelchair accessible vehicles are flooding the highways these days. While the jobless rate for the general population seems to have hit a plateau, the employment landscape for Americans with disabilities shows that “promise” is the word for 2013. Experts tout systems like the Ticket to Work program, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and the Americans with Disabilities Act for the rise in opportunities being given to individuals with disabilities in the workplace today.

The end of 2012 showed a steady decrease in the unemployment rate for Americans with disabilities. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities fell to 11.7 percent in December, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor. December’s rate is down from the 12.7 percent reported in November. With the decrease, December marked the fourth consecutive month that the unemployment rate declined for those with disabilities.

There hasn’t actually been a study done showing the increase of wheelchair accessible vehicles traffic, but The Labor Department did begin tracking employment rates of people with disabilities in late 2008. Enough data is not yet available to show proven seasonal trends among this population, so statistics for this group are not seasonally adjusted. Reports are now released monthly on the most up to date statistics of unemployment among Americans with disabilities.

While we are seeing more wheelchair accessible vehicles on the roads and the increase in jobs available to people with disabilities is a promising step forward for 2013, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities remains higher than the national average. The economy as a whole added 146,000 jobs in November 2012, lowering the unemployment count down to 7.7 percent.
